So you met the love of your life and you can’t wait to grow old by their side. Time to pop the question! But a million questions are running through your mind. The first thing popping into your head is ” How do I do an amazing Oahu Proposal? Where should I start? How do I keep it a full surprise?

First step of your Oahu proposal

Find out whether it’s important to her to get her dad (or other parental figure, friend, ext) approval for her hand. Some think it’s an outdated concept, I for one think it’s pretty cute. But also keep in mind what she would want you to do!

Next step, is the ring!

Think of what kind of ring she would like. Some are silver girlies, others are gold girlies. And you do NOT want to get the metal wrong. Usually, and this is coming from a fellow girl, we all have some kind of idea. More often than not, we will have a few ideas saved on Pinterest. If you don’t have access to it, text her BFF, she’ll know and she will probably be your best ally in this venture.

Proposing on Oahu has to be one of the most magical experiences. Just like many sessions, weddings or elopements, it can be as fancy or simple as you’d like.

Add Hire a photographer to your list

I’m not saying this because I am an Oahu proposal photographer myself, but we are truly such a big help when it comes to planning. Now, not every photographer is the same and is willing to provide the same level of service. But Hawaii photographers are busy year-round due to tourism. The earlier you book, the more time you’ll have to plan and the more help you’ll receive.

Once you have your photographer picked out, make sure to ask them the following questions so you’re sure they have the experience needed and they’re up to the task:

• How many surprise Ohau proposals have you captured already?
• Do you have a set plan so I can get down on one knee and keep it a surprise until then?
• How willing are you to help me to surprise my girlfriend?
• Is it possible for you to film it on your phone at the same time?
• Do you provide location ideas?
• Can you provide extra services (like a flower heart, champagne, pic nic) or provide vendors if I want it to be a big, fancy affair?
• How many photos are included?
• How long until we receive our gallery?

After receiving all that information, you should have a pretty solid understanding of your photographer’s professionalism, vibe, and personality. Of course, I understand pricing is a factor. But when proposing on Oahu, it is key that you find a photographer that you get along with and are completely comfortable in front of.

Choose a Time of Day

Your photographer should help you pick a time of day and a location. Those are the next decisions to make. Usually sunrise or sunsets are the best time of day, and weekdays are the best time of week. The beaches, hikes, and activities tend to be less busy than on the weekends. Personally, I prefer sunsets, it’s cute, no need to come up for a good reason to wake up at 4 am and you can go celebrate at a romantic restaurant after.

Pick an Oahu Proposal Location

This brings me to my next point, pick a place or an activity that means something to you. Maybe you want to propose while riding horses on the beach, maybe during an adventurous helicopter ride. What about a catamaran ride, or at the top of a hiking summit? The options are endless. Choosing Oahu for your proposal, you’ll never run out of ideas and it can only be beautiful.

After Proposal plans

Lastly, don’t let the proposal be the only thing happening that day. Oahu is a rich island, with so, SO much to do and explore. You’re only proposing once, make the whole day special. Have a nice dinner planned, or even a room service + movie night back at the hotel. Hotels can also be a great surprise, they’re usually more than willing to help you to make it special if you just let them know ahead.
